Dr. Edward Montgomery, former member of the Institute’s Research Advisory Group and coauthor with Institute staff, has been named the 9th president of Western Michigan University

Dr. Ed MontgomeryDr. Edward Montgomery, former member of the Institute’s Research Advisory Group and coauthor with Institute staff, has been named the 9th president of Western Michigan University.  Western Michigan University Board of Trustees recently announced the appointment, citing Dr. Montgomery’s unique policy experience and academic expertise. Dr. Montgomery will leave his current position as Dean of the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University when assuming the head position of WMU on August 1. Prior to his appointment as Dean at Georgetown University, he held several posts at the U.S. Department of Labor, including Chief Economist, Assistant Secretary for Policy and Deputy Secretary.  Dr. Montgomery also held academic posts as full professor in the economics department at the University of Maryland. Dr. Montgomery served on the Institute’s Research Advisory Group in the early 2000s and has coauthored several articles with Institute staff on topics of labor market dynamics and minority entrepreneurship.  He received a PhD in economics from Harvard University.
